3. Keep in mind that when the car stops, the final velocity is zero. Use the formula for final velocity to calculate the acceleration.

v2 = v1 + at

0 m/s = 30 m/s + (a × 3 s)

0 = 30 + 3a

Subtract 3a from both sides of the equation.

0 − 3a = 30 + 3a − 3a

−3a = 30

Divide both sides of the equation by –3 to solve for a.
