A man is 1.7 m long. an amoeba is 17 µm long. how does the length of the man compare to the length of the amoeba?

The question deals with the knowledge of the standard unit meter. By convention, micrometer or µm has been assigned to mean
1* 10^(-6) meters. Therefore, 17 µm is equal to
17* 10^(-6) meters

We divide the height of the man with the length of the amoeba to arrive at a comparison.


(1.7)/(17* 10^(-6) ) =100,000

ANSWER: The man is therefore 100,000 times longer than the amoeba.

Height of man= 1.7 meters
Length of Amoeba=17 μm
As 1μ (micro) = 10^-6
Which is 1/100,000.
Now length of Amoeba= 17 x 10^-6 m
Which means that man is 100,000 longer than amoeba.
Answer: Man is 100,000 times longer than Amoeba.
