Which statement best describes the adiabatic process? A. In an adiabatic process, no heat enters or leaves the system. B. In an adiabatic process, the system does no work nor is work done on it. C. In an adiabatic process, the temperature of the system remains constant. D. In an adiabatic process, the pressure of the system remains constant.

The correct choice is A although for me it was E which was correct because the choices were mixed up a bit but for you, A. In an adiabatic process, no heat enters or leaves the system, is correct.

In any adiabatic system we always say that exchange of heat in that system must be zero

\Delta Q = 0

so from first law we have

\Delta Q = \Delta U + W

so we have

0 = \Delta U + W

so here we can say that negative change in internal energy is equal to work done by the system.

so the correct answer must be

A. In an adiabatic process, no heat enters or leaves the system.
