So the equation looks like this:

2X -3 =12

So we are first going to get rid of -3 by adding 3 to both sides of the equal sign:

2X -3 = 12

+ 3 +3

SO the equation looks like this now:

2x = 15

Now we are going to segregate the variable x by dividing 2x and 15 by 2:

2x/2 = 15/2

x = 7.5

So in order to check our work we are going to substitute 7.5 where the x variable is in the equation:

2X -3 =12 or 2(7.5) - 3 = 12

2(7.5) - 3 = 12

15 - 3 = 12

12 = 12

So our answer to what the variable x equals is 7.5.
