i own three dogs 5 cats 7 squirrels 8birds 10 lizards and 4 beetles I told my friends that my ratio of dogs+cats to my other pets is 8:37 but my friend says it is 8:29 Who is correct (if any) and if someone made a mistake what was the mistake

Answer:

Your friend is correct.

Explanation:

You have 3 dogs and 5 cats; that makes [8] pets. Now, add up the rest of your pets (excluding dogs and cats, of course).

7 (squirrels) + 8 (birds) + 10 (lizards) + 4 (beetles) = [29] pets

[8:29]

By the looks of it, the mistake made here was adding up everything when calculating the second part of the ratio, including the dogs and cats (this shouldn't have been done).

The ratio of dogs+cats to the other pets is 29. However the ratio of dogs+cats to the total number of pets is 8:37. Which they didn’t ask for, and ask for the ratio of dogs+cats to other pets.
