Is One Child Policy in China justifiable? Why or why not?

I will say that it was justifiable because it seemed like a solution to curb population growth in China. The rate of natural increase in China did decline. However, there were many unseen negative effects as a result of this policy. Parents wanted sons to carry on their family last name, so they would often abandon female children because of that. On top of that, there is a much heavier burden for a son to provide for his family from his grandparents, his parents, and himself. Finally, with the preference for male children, there is a skewed amount of boys compared to girls. This leaves a lot of men without a wife when they become of age.
