The height of a parallelogram is 6 feet more than its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 160 square feet, find the length of its base.

Answer:

10 feet

Explanation:

base= x feet

height=(6+x) feet

area= (6+x)x=160

=6x+x²=160 ==> x²+6x-160=0

factories the eqn obtained....

(x-10)(x+16)=0

x= 10 or -16

since length cannot be negative, x=10

since the base = x feet

base=10 feet
