5x+4y=-34 and y=3x

x = -2 ; y = -6

Explanation:

Let y = 3x be eqn.1

So putting eqn.1 in 5x + 4y = -34 gives ,


5x + 4y = - 34


= > 5x + 4(3x) = - 34


= > 5x + 12x = - 34


= > 17x = - 34


= > x = ( - 34)/(17) = - 2

Putting the value of x in eqn.1 gives :-


y = 3x = 3 * ( - 2) = - 6
