What is a rule of thirds? (Please help ;-;)

The rule of thirds is super simple. Basically if you divide your paper like the picture that I posted, you want to put whatever subject you are taking a picture/painting on one of the circled points.
If you do this instead of placing a subject dead center, it will help add interest to your project
