Explanation:

pick any 2 points such as (100,0) and (120,10)

to get from point (100.0) to point (120,10) you had to rise 10 and run 20

so the slope m =rise 10/run20= 1/2

the equation of the line is (y-y1)=m(x-x1)

(y-0)=(1/2)(x-100) for the slope m=1/2 and point on the line (100,0)

y=( x/2)-50 if you distribute

compare this with the equation

y=mx+b wher m=slope and bb is y-intercept

so the y-intercept is -50
