The perimeter of a standard-sized rectangular rug is 44 feet. The width is 2 feet

less than the length. Find the dimensions.

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l+b)

Let the length be x

then width = x-2

44 ft = 2(l+b)

44ft = 2(x + x-2)

44ft = 2(2x-2)

44 ft = 4x -4

44+4 = 4x

48 = 4x

x = 48/4 = 12

Length = x = 12

Width = x-2 = 12-2 =10

Length is 12 and width is 10

check if its correct

2(l+b) = 44

2(12+10)=44

2(22) = 44
