Explain the difference between -2^4 and (-2)^4, and evaluate each power

Use your exponent rules to express as a single power, 94 ÷ 27^2

The difference is whether the exponent attaches to just the 2 or to the negative sign as well

-2^4 = - (2x2x2x2) = -16

(-2^4) = -2 x -2 x -2 x -2 = +16
