Bethany is having a neighbor watch her dog while she is gone for the week. She decides to take 7/8 of a pound of dog food and put it into 7 containers equally. How much dog food will be in each container?

7/8 pounds = 7 containers

To calculate the amount that will be in each container, we willl say;

x pounds = 1 container

Equating both;

7/8 pounds = 7 containers

x pounds = 1 container

Cross multiply

7 * x = 7/8 * 1

7x = 7/8

cross multiply

7x * 8 = 7

56x = 7

x = 7/56

x = 1/8

Hence 1/8 pounds of the dog food will be in each container
