Answer:

a shift in Spanish interest from western areas of New Spain to eastern Texas.

Step-by-step explanation:

Robert Cavalier de la Salle was a French man who left to establish a settlement at a time when the French and Spanish people were at war. Few weeks after he left for the expedition the war stopped but not having gotten the information on time, he continued right on. He founded the settlement in 1685 and the fort lasted for just three years.

When the Spanish people learned of this, they went on a mission to destroy the fort. Their interest was also shifted from the western areas of New Spain to eastern Texas.
