using the slope formula

m =
(y_(2)-y_(1) )/(x_(2)-x_(1) )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (x, 4 ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (- 3, 8 )

m =
(8-4)/(-3-x)

since m is undefined, then the denominator must be zero, since division by zero is undefined , then equating the denominator to zero

- 3 - x = 0 ( add 3 to both sides )

- x = 3 ( multiply both sides by - 1 )

x = - 3
