When multiplying 1,729 times 308, Clayton got a product of 52,253. Does his answer seem reasonable

Answer:

No, it does not

Explanation:

  • Well first we round off the factors 1790 and 308 to 2000 and 300
  • These are numbers which we are kind of close to our original numbers, but easier to multiply without a calculator or anything of the kind
  • Then we easily multiply and estimate if the answer is right
  • So
    2000*300=600,000
  • Now how close is 600,000 to 52,253? They are way too far apart!
  • So that means the product is not reasonable, it's not even close to our estimation.
