(1)/(2) x + 3 = (2)/(3) x + 1 \\

Subtract sides 3

(1)/(2) x + 3 - 3 = (2)/(3) x + 1 - 3 \\

(1)/(2) x = (2)/(3) x - 2 \\

Multiply sides by 6

6 * (1)/(2) x = 6 * (2)/(3) x + 6 * ( - 2) \\

3x = 4x - 12

Subtract sides 4x

- 4x + 3x = - 4x + 4x - 12

- x = - 12

Negatives simplifies

x = 12

CHECK :

(1)/(2) (12) + 3 = (2)/(3) (12) + 1 \\

6 + 3 = 8 + 1

9 = 9

Thus the solution is correct .
