The rules of operations states that we deal with parentheses first. So, inside the parentheses, we have, 2 times 3. Multiply that. That gives us 6. So now, the equation looks like this:

(6)^2 + 5^2

Now we have to work with the exponents. So, square both numbers.

(6)^2 = 36

5^2 = 25

Now we have:

36 + 25

Now we add. 36 + 25 = 61

61 is your answer.
