Given;

The points are; (1,-3) and (3,1).

Use double point formula.


(y - y1) = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x2) (y - y1)

Put all values.


(y + 3) = (1 + 3)/(3 - 1) (x - 1)

Simplify it.


(y + 3) = (4)/(2) (x - 1)


y + 3 = 2(x - 1)


y + 3 = 2x - 2


y = 2x - 2 - 3


y = 2x - 5

Therefore, the eqaution is y = 2x-5.

Alternative:

Steps:

  • Find slope using slope formula and use one point formula.
  • Simplify in the form of y = mx+c form.

Formula:

  • Slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
  • One point formula= (y-y1)= m(x-x1)

The points are; (1,-3) and (3,1).

Now;

Slope= (1- (-3))/(3-1)

= (1+3)/2

= 2

Again;

Using one-point formula.
