Explanation:

the midpoint of points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is (
(x_(1) + x_(2))/(2),
(y_(1) + y_(2))/(2))

plug in points (-2, -4) and (10, 8) to get ((10+(-2))/2), (8+(-4))/2) = (4, 2)
