A cold-drawn AISI 1015 steel tube is 300 mm OD by 200 mm ID and is to be subjected to an external pressure caused by a shrink fit. Using the distortion-energy theory, determine the maximum pressure that would cause the material of the tube to yield.

Answer:

88.9mpa

Step-by-step explanation:

do = outer diameter = 300mm

di = inner diameter = 200 mm

Sy = yield strength = 320 mpa

To get maximum pressure

-45000/22500-10000

= 45000/12500

= -3.6po

Sy = 3.6Po

Po = 320/3.6

Po = 88.9mpa

88.9 Mpa is the maximum pressure that would cause the material of the tube to yield

This answers the question.
