Is there mechanical work done if the direction of work and the displacement perpendicular to each other?

No that's not mechanical work done .

If displacement happens then whatever the direction be the work is done except nπ/2 values of theta

In that case the general formula W=Force×Distance can't be used

Then We have to include theta

  • W=FdcosØ

Put Ø=90

  • W=Fdcos90
  • W=Fd0
  • W=OJ

No work done
