What you have to do is isolate the x variable, you do the opposite to the other side of the equation to isolate the x.

Step 1- Subtract 3 to both sides of the equation.

-6x+3= 5

-3 -3

-6x= 2

Step 2- Divide both sides of the equation by -6.

-6x= 2

-6 -6

x= -0.3333...

So, x equals -0.333 or -1/3.
