The distance between the two parallel plates is 3 cm and the lower plate is being pulled at a relative velocity of 10 cm/s greater than the top plate. The fluid used is soybean oil with viscosity of 5x10-2Pa.s at 250 K. Calculate shear stress and shear rate.

Answer:

Sheer rate = 3.3 sec⁻¹

Shear stress = 0.1667 Pa

Step-by-step explanation:

From the given information:

The viscosity of the soya bean fluid
\mu = 5×10⁻² Pa.s

The distance which is the height of the two parallel plates x = 3cm

The relative velocity dV= 10 cm/s

The expression for calculating the Shear rate can be expressed as:

Sheer rate = dV/dx

Sheer rate = (10 cm/s)/ 3cm

Sheer rate = 3.3 sec⁻¹

Also, The formula for calculating the Shear stress is:

Shear \ stress= \mu (dV)/(dx)

Shear \ stress= 5 * 10^(-2) ( (10 \ cm/ sec)/(3 \ cm))

Shear stress = 0.1667 Pa
