- 7 ( k + 5 ) = 3k - ( 8k - 1 )

- 7 ( k ) - 7 ( 5 ) = 3k - ( 8k ) - ( - 1 )

- 7k - 35 = 3k - 8k + 1

- 7k - 35 = - 5k + 1

( Add the alphabetical terms and numbers separately )

Add 5k on both sides,

- 7k + 5k - 35 = - 5k + 5k + 1

- 2k - 35 = 1

Add 35 on both sides,

- 2k = 1 + 35

- 2k = 36

Divide - 2 on both sides,

k = 36/-2

k = - 18

Hence,

the value of k is - 18.
