Heres the passage:

Peter. I suppose you miss your friends and all.

Anne. It isn't just . . . (She breaks off, staring up at him for a second.) Isn't it funny, you and I? Here we’ve been seeing each other every minute for almost a year and a half, and this is the first time we've ever really talked. It helps a lot to have someone to talk to, don't you think? It helps you to let off steam. Peter (Going to the door). Well, any time you want to let off steam, you can come into my room.

Anne (Following him). I can get up an awful lot of steam. You'll have to be careful how you say that.

Peter. It’s all right with me.

Anne. Do you mean it?

Peter. I said it, didn’t I?

Answer:

This is the Sample Response... Hope this helps! :)

Step-by-step explanation:

It is important to have someone you can share your feelings with. This is a theme of the play, because Anne seems to enjoy her conversations with Peter. She does not get along with the adults as well. Anne says it helps to "let off steam" with someone else, and Peter says she can let off steam with him anytime. When Anne says, "Do you mean it?" she acts as though she will take him up on the offer.

Answer:

The theme of the passage is you may need someone to talk to at any time. Because Peter misses his friends, Anne is trying to talk to him. His words are taken in the wrong manner. They were both talking about blowing off steam. Peter said “ anytime you want to let off steam, you can come in my room.” Having someone you can share your feelings with is an important thing to have when you are upset.
