The sum of two numbers is 48. If the second number is 6 less than the first, what

is the value of EACH of the numbers?

Answer:

let the first no. be x

then the second no. = x - 6

their sum is 48

therefore,


= > x + (x - 6) = 48 \\ = > 2x = 48 + 6 \\ = > 2x = 54 \\ = > x = (54)/(2) \\ = > x = 27

The value of first no. = x = 27

The value of second no. = x - 6 = 27 - 6

= 21
