Answer: B) The x-terms

Detailed Explanation:

=> y - x = 12 (Eq. 1)
=> y + x = -26 (Eq. 2)

On Adding the Equations, the terms in the opposite symbols with same coefficients will get cancelled. Here in this system of equations we have “-x” in Eq. 1 and “+x” in Eq.2 which are negative and positive respectively. Hence it will get eliminated.

Whereas if we are Subtracting the equations, the x terms won’t get cancelled. Instead the y terms will get eliminated.
