I would practice using a curl up bench, and throwing your weight forward when you do. Practice some yoga, and the v sit may help to get back/spine coordination of doing situps. The pacer is plain hel, and I recommend just practicing running around your backyard in under 30 seconds and shortening that time slowly by 1 second each time.
