When coping with a "mean kid", it is important to remember that they are humans with feelings too. I would try to figure out why they are being mean. they might be mean to other students because of problems at home. if this is the case, then I would make time to get to know them and try to become their friend. if they see that people care about them and are willing to give their time to get to know them, then the "mean kid" may be less likely to be rude to other students.
