The small intestine is an essential part of the digestive system as it carries out most of the digestive process. The small intestine plays important role in digesting food, absorbing nutrients, and get rid of the waste.

The villi, Finger-like projections, present in the interior walls of the small intestine produce digestive juices, or enzymes help in digestion and making chyme more acidic. It absorbs most of the nutrients from foods into your bloodstream and the remaining chyme pass to the large intestine where absorption and eliminates waste takes place.
