Why is density a characteristic property of an object, but volume is not?

Density classifies as a characteristic explicitly and volume does not. For something to have a characteristic, this means that it is something used to show what exactly that something is. For example, you can have 3 lead blocks of different sizes but they all have the same substance which is lead. The density will all be the same for all 3 blocks, but the volume is different for each object, meaning that the size of the object is different. Hope this helps!

Because density is mass divided by volume and it will always stay the same for a certain substance while mass and volume will always vary.
