Explanation:

Ok, so area of a rectangle is pretty simple. Multiply the base and height. In this case, it is 10 × 8. The area of the rectangle is 80 ft^2.

Triangles are a little different. Because the height of the rectangle is the same as the height of the triangle (they share a side) we can use it to find the area. The area of a triangle uses the equation:


(1)/(2)(b × h)

Height = 8ft Base = 6ft

8 × 6 = 48


(1)/(2) of 48 = 24 ft^2

Now, because it is all part of the same shape, add the areas together.

80 + 24 = 104 ft^2
