To find this you will want to find what the 2 denominators have in common. In this instance if you multiply 4 by 2 you will get 8. Once you find what you can do to get the same denominators you will multiply the numerator with the same number as the denominator. So 4x2 and 1x2 gives us 2/8 as our new fraction. After this adding fractions is much simplier. It's as simple as adding the numerators together and keeping the denominator as the same. 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8.
