In the fall, you charge your neighbors $9 for going to their house to rake leaves, then $6 for every

hour you rake. If you make $51 one day, how many hours did you spend raking?

Answer:

You spent 7 hours.

Explanation:

First add 9 and 6 together which is 15 and then you continue to add 6 until you reach 51. I added 6 to my sum 7 times .

1. Summarize the data given.

You know that you made $51 in just one day. You charge $9 for going to their house, plus $6 hours for raking.

9 + 6x = 51

X = The Hours Spent Raking

2. Turn the equation so then 6x is by itself.

9 + 6x = 51

-9 -9

6x = 42

3. Remove the number, so x remains by itself.

6x = 42

/6 /6

x = 7

So that means, you spent 7 hours raking leaves on the day I made 51 dollars.
