Read the passage below.

Transportation in the United States is spread across rail lines, roads for cars and trucks, and water networks for ships. Over half of the roads in the United States, however, are in poor condition. One in four bridges need construction to handle the traffic that drives on them every day. And nearly half of Americans do not have access to mass transit like buses and subways. President Obama is looking to change things.
“Over the past five years, American workers have repaired or replaced more than 20,000 bridges, improved more than 350,000 miles of American roads. But we can do better. We can build better -- and we have to. Building a world-class transportation system is one of the reasons America became an economic superpower in the first place.”
