The simplest way is just to [try check and revise]. Place parentheses on each two numbers and try.

However, there is a somewhat trick involved.

Normally, when a question asks for adding parentheses, the parentheses are normally placed on two numbers that don't usually operate together.

  • For example, in this question, [15 - 6 + 1]. Normally, is should be 15-6 which is 9. Then 9+1 is 10. Also, usually when you add parentheses on -6+1, it will change signs into -(6-1). But, in this question, when we add parentheses, signs don't change. So it is -(6+1).
