The sum of two numbers is 133. The difference is 49.

Explanation:

Let one number be x, then the other is 133-x.

So as the difference is 49 we have:

133 - x - x = 49

-2x = 49 - 133

-2x = -84

x = -84/-2 = 42.

The numbers are 42 and 133 - 42 = 91.

Answer:

let the numbers be x and y.

x+y=133......(i)

x-y=49.......(ii)

solving eqn (i) and (ii) we get,

x+y=133

x-y=49

we solved it through elimination method.

Here, y and y cancelled out so, we've,

or, 2x=182

so, x=91

now putting value of x in any of the eqn.

in eqn(i)

or, x+y=133

or, 91+y=133

or, y=133-91

so, y=42

Therefore, the two numbers are 91 and 42.
