Assuming the -5 is with the x

You have 3^(x-5) =9

Convert the 9 to base 3: 3^2 = 9

Now you have:

3 ^(x-5) = 3^2

Now solve for exponents:

X-5= 2

Add 5 to both sides:

X = 7
