Which expression below is equivalent to 2x + 8?

8(x + 1)
2(x + 2) + 2
x + 2(x + 4)
x + 4 + x + 4

Answer: D) x+4+x+4

The two x terms combine to x+x = 2x

The other pair of like terms, the constants, add to 4+4 = 8

Overall we get 2x+8

2x+8 is also equivalent to 2(x+4) when you factor out the GCF 2.
