Two angles are complementary if their sum is 90°. If the measure of the first angle is x°, and

the measure of the second angle is (3x - 2)°, find the measure of each angle.

Answer:

The first angle is 23°, the second angle is 67°

Explanation:

- measure of first angle

(3x-2)° - measure of second angle

Their sum is 90° so

x + 3x - 2 = 90

+2 +2

4x = 92

÷4 ÷4

x = 23

3x-2 = 3•23 - 2 = 69 - 2 = 67

Checking: 23+67 = 90
