Arobot is at position A(30,40) and is heading toward the point B (1000, 1000) along a straight line

at a constant speed. The robot will reach point B in 10 hours.

Answer:

(418, 424)

Explanation:

Arobot travels at constant speed. The total trip takes 10 hours. We want to know its position is 4 hours. The fraction of the path it will travel in 4 hours is 4/10 of the entire path. We need to find what point is 4/10 of the way from point A to point B.

For each coordinate, we find 4/10 of the difference between point A and B, and we add it tot eh coordinate of point A.

x-coordinate:

difference in x-coordinates: 1000 - 30 = 970

4/10 * 970 = 388

30 + 388 = 418

The x-coordinate is 418

y-coordinate:

difference in x-coordinates: 1000 - 40 = 960

4/10 * 960 = 384

40 + 384 = 424

The x-coordinate is 424

Answer: (418, 424)
