Answer:

2 (1)/(8) ~(miles)/(hour)

Explanation:

"Per" means division.

"miles per hour" means a distance in miles divided by a time in hours.

We need to divide 5 2/3 miles by 2 2/3 hours.

(5 (2)/(3)~miles)/(2 (2)/(3)~hours)} =

Change each mixed numeral into a fraction.

= ((5 * 3 + 2)/(3)~miles)/((2 * 3 + 2)/(3)~hours)

= ((17)/(3)~miles)/((8)/(3)~hours)

To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal.

= (17)/(3) * (3)/(8) (miles)/(hour)

= (17)/(8) (miles)/(hour)

= 2 (1)/(8) ~(miles)/(hour)
