Explanation:

Hey there!

The points are (x,2) and (8,17).

The slope given is 3.

Now,

Using slope formula.

slope = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

Put all values.

3 = (17 - 2)/(8 - x)

Simplify them to get answer.

3 = (15)/(8 - x)

3(8 - x) = 15

24 - 3x = 15

24 - 15 = 3x

x = (9)/(3)

Therefore the value of x is 3.

Hope it helps...
