Answer:

The ultimate collapse of the USSR was due to a lot of factors, such as radical changes made by Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev. Ultimately, the final straw that marked the end of the USSR was the wave overthrow of the Soviet's communist sattelite states in Eastern Europe, where the people sometimes violently restored democracy or were given in to by the standing governments, which voluntarily dissolved. Soviet power at this point was already crumbling, and with its loss of Eastern Europe to capitalist movements, problems back at home began to be put in the spotlight. The standing premier before the dissolution of the USSR attempted to make the nation more sustainable and recover from the vast economic woes directly caused by his predecessors costly and elaborate military rivalry with the USA. Eventually, Gorbachev stepped down as Soviet premier, and the Soviet republics began declaring independence. Boris Yeltsin assumed the presidency of the newly formed Russian Federation.
