Work out the difference in minutes between 1 hour 25 minutes and 1 1/4 hours step by step please :)

First, let's change both of these times into just minutes. (We know that one hour is sixty minutes.)


\text{First time: } 1*60+25=60+25=85


\text{Second time: } 1*60+(1)/(4)*60=60+15=75

Now, just subtract:
