What is x in this equation? -2x - 4 + 5x =8

X = 4

-2x - 4 + 5x = 8

Add up the X’s: 3x - 4 = 8

Isolate the X’s, Transfer -4 to the other side of the equal sign, while also flipping the sign (negative & positive): 3x = 8 + 4

Add up the 8 & 4: 3x = 12

Divide each side by 3: 3x/3 = 12/3

Final Answer: x = 4
