The Americas received European goods such as wheat, rice, and even animals like horses, or pigs, which were not present in the Americas before.

Europe obtained highly valued American goods like tomatoes, potatoes or corn, which are now staple foods all over the world.

The Native American Populations were also affected in a ghastly manner by the exchange: they were exposed to infectious diseases of Eurasian origin like Smallpox or Measles, for which they did not have antibodies. This caused an extremely high mortality among the Native American populations. According to some estimates, up to 90 o 95% of Native Americans died due to these infectious diseases.
