Steps to solve:

-8(2x + 1) = 6x - 12

~Distribute left side

-16x - 8 = 6x - 12

~Add 8 to both sides

-16x = 6x - 4

~Subtract 6 to both sides

-22x = -4

~Divide -22 to both sides

x = 22/4 or z = 11/2
