5x + 7 - x - 2 = 6x + 3x – 16

21/5 =x

Explanation:

5x + 7 - x - 2 = 6x + 3x – 16

Combine like terms

4x +5 = 9x - 16

Subtract 4x from each side

4x+5 -4x = 9x-4x-16

5 = 5x-16

Add 16 to each side

5+16 = 5x-16+16

21=5x

Divide each side by 5

21/5 = 5x/5

21/5 =x
